From Benchwarmer to Starting Lineup

A blog journey consisting of my (hopefully eventual) triumph over weight loss with bits here and there about my oh so zesty life :)

October 1st (for reals this time).

So I did my official weigh and I have learned one valuable lesson. Only get on the scale once. I have this strange habit of getting on the scale 3 times in a row and trusting the number I see twice rather than once. Unfortunately today this has worked against me. I went from 156.5 to 157.5…ugh whatever. It’s better to be realistic about the number than to live in a fantasy land. My plan for eating is pretty basic and includes: moderation, stopping when full, and eating smaller portions. I also wanted to incoporate some of the elements of food combining from Suzanne Somers as well as cutting back on (not eliminating!!) my white flour/carb intake. So yeaaah that didn’t happen today. I met a girl from my grad school today for lunch (the best thing to do when you’re first meeting somebody is eating it seems) and we ended up going to this Chili place. Yeah so how I supposed to avoid carbs there?? I had a chili cheeseburger and an order of chili cheese fries (which I shared with the girl) and an iced tea. If I had to give myself a grade on food today it would probably be a solid D (this a solid D rather than a D- because I redeemed myself by having a decent dinner). Buttt on the bright side I ended up hitting the gym! I worked out for an hour on the treadmilll and ran 4 and half miles so I’m pretty happy with that. When I was in better shape I could run 5 and half miles in 60 minutes so I’m trying to get back there. My ulimate goal is to run 6 miles in 60 minutes so I hope to get there in the next few months. I have 10.5 weeks until I am flying back home for my winter break (SO EXCITEEEED!) but that is also my motivator. I want my family to see me looking fit and happy when I come back for winter break! And I know in these next few weeks I can lose at the very least 10 pounds (my reach goal is 15 pounds). I also have another motivator (a story for a longer post that is coming soon….promise) but I am excited that I have a good amount of time to lose weight. In the past I’d have like 5 weeks and I’d be trying to lose 12, 13 pounds — needless to say I have been rather disappointed.

Tomorrow I will once again be hitting the treadmill annnnd going to Target to get some healthier foods.

Sidenote: I have been tracking the weight loss tag to get inspiration but I kept seeing all this thinspo stuff. Anyone else a little unsettled by these posts? I mean some I saw were okay but others were pretty extreme. To each there own but at the same time I have to admit it made me feel kind of uncomfortable. :|

Until tomorrow!!
